right now. at five, the home of oakland's mayor raided by federal agents almost 24 hours ago. we still have not seen or heard from mayor xiang tao, she is a radio silent. as the abc seven i-team learns the investigation includes allegations of political corruption, one of the worst mass shootings to happen in oakland. >> what we've learned about the

shooting at lake merritt that sent more than a dozen people to the hospital and waymo has been given the green light for expansion beyond san francisco. >> this comes just days after a bill that would have allowed cities to self regulate the industry was withdrawn, and this was much more than a baseball game. >> we have the highlights of the tribute to the great willie mays and his legacy. >> so special. well, good morning to you. and it's friday, june 21st. happy friday to you all. happy tuesday. >> yeah. we're going to start the check of our forecast drew. >> yeah. as you said. hello to summer yesterday. we start to warm up today and then into the weekend. it gets hot around here as heat advisories begin to kick in. but this morning our marine layer is certainly with us right now. just like yesterday. most of us are beginning with overcast skies. you can see from the city, the south bay, the coast. we have clouds. the only area far inland is seeing clear skies at this hour. temperatures in the upper 40s to the mid 50s and later today it's

yesterday. and even along the coast we'll see more sunshine than we were able to see yesterday afternoon. so here we go inland today we're back into the 90s, low 90s for daytime highs, and we are just totally sunny out there from start to finish. now around the bay shoreline. we have that cloud cover right now. it's going to break down faster than yesterday. i think a lot of us will see that sunshine closer to 9:10 a.m. it's warmer than yesterday. we'll go into the 70s and then along the coast. we do have a lot of cloud cover right now. we will see a bit more sunshine today. upper 50s to the lower 60s tomorrow. heat advisory kicks in. we'll talk about that in a few minutes, but let's check in with sue hall and see how we're doing with the drive times. >> good morning drew and we are talking fog on the golden gate. as drew mentioned, it is pretty thick on the coastal side of things. it's right down on the deck on the golden gate bridge and across the waldo grade. very limited visibility. so heads up. our problem spot this morning is on 80 the coming skyway in rodeo. we had an accident that's blocking all westbound lanes.

it's an overturn and the chp is calling for a sigalert. we have no official word of that yet. and then eastbound was also shut down for a time. but you can see eastbound 80 is now moving. although slower. so we'll be following this for you when we come back in a few. >> all right. sue, thank you so much this morning. we are still waiting to hear from oakland mayor shengtao, 24 hours after her home was raided by the fbi. >> abc seven news was the first to tell you about this, as it was breaking yesterday morning. you can see agents carrying boxes out of myrtle's home, and this was one of four locations raided and agents started before dawn at mayor tao's home on maiden lane, very close to highway 13 and the mormon temple. >> other agents, including from the irs, raided the embarcadero offices of california waste solutions, which runs the city's recycling company. two homes on bucharest court and skyline boulevard were also raided. they are connected to the duong family, which runs california waste solutions. abc seven news

reporter lena howland was the first reporter at mayor tao's home yesterday. she's been tracking the developments since the very beginning. lena, good morning. >> good morning. gloria, law enforcement sources tell abc seven this is a public corruption case with the fbi, irs and u.s. postal service working together, though the fbi confirmed only that they carried out a court, authorized law enforcement activity. agents hit several locations, including mayor shang tao's home. more than a dozen agents were there for more than four hours. we watched as they carried out boxes of plastic tubs and trash bags and quickly left without comment. nina medina happened to be staying in the neighborhood with friends. she's president of the national latino peace officers association here for a meeting with the new oakland police chief. >> the federal government doesn't force or obtain warrants into one's residence without probable cause. and when it rises, in my experience, to the

level of the federal government, you're talking about some significant, issues. >> fbi agents also hit the offices of california waste solutions. we spotted the irs there back in 2020. their company founders were under investigation by the public ethics commission for funneling money through straw donors to council members. we have reached out to the mayor's office yesterday and again today. our calls and emails have gone unanswered. live in studio lena howland, abc seven news. >> thank you. lena. raids also took place in a quiet neighborhood in the hills of oakland. a neighbor who didn't want to be identified, said she heard the fbi say they were carrying out a federal warrant. >> and then i started hearing, uh, this is the fbi. open up. come out with your hands up. >> the house belongs to andy duong. he's listed as director at california waste solutions.

that recycling company that serves the city of oakland. just before noon yesterday, the fbi inspected a mercedes benz that was parked outside that home. and then 30 minutes later, an unidentified couple leaving the house drove off in that vehicle. meanwhile u.s. postal inspectors collected evidence at a nearby house that belonged to david duong, andy's father, who is listed as the ceo of california waste solutions, now the duong family's business, california waste solutions, released this statement. it reads california waste solutions is fully aware that federal agents executed search warrants at a number of locations in oakland and related to kwhs. the company is fully cooperating with the government's investigation and is confident that government officials will conclude that aws was not involved in any unlawful or improper activities. >> it has been a rough week for the oakland mayor. wednesday, a recall petition was allowed to move forward and yesterday the

fbi paid a visit to her home. protesters gathered outside the home of mayor tao yesterday afternoon demanding her resignation. the group told abc seven news they believe what oakland needs now. more than ever is transparency. >> the mayor should explain to the residents what's going on. she should step out, show leadership and say how she's helping oakland. >> abc seven news reached out to nearly all of the members of the oakland city council yesterday. most declined to comment. at councilmember carroll fife told us the council was not briefed on the raids, and this is clearly an ongoing investigation and we're going to stay on it. so stay with abc seven news to learn the latest about what's happening with the mayor and how it will affect the city of oakland. we'll continue to update abc seven news.com and the abc seven bay area app also going on in oakland. >> we are following the latest developments in one of the city's biggest shootings. we've learned at least 15 people were

shot wednesday night at a juneteenth celebration near lake merritt. police say there were at least 5000 people in attendance. oakland police chief floyd mitchell confirmed there were multiple shooters in the crowd and hundreds of people ran for cover. officers say the chaos erupted after a sideshow and fights that broke out when a group climbed on the roof of a moving vehicle. >> we have everything from minor gunshot or flesh wounds to loss of fingers to some of the individuals still being in critical condition. >> there are questions lingering over how many officers were actually there on the scene before and after the shooting broke out. opd says 30. were there. one person was arrested for assaulting a police officer, but no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting.

>> and today is a last day of the giants say, hey pop up experience celebrating the late willie mays. it opens at ten across from oracle park. yesterday, oracle park was open for fans to gather in his honor. the center field scoreboard showed the giants game against the saint louis cardinals. it was played out rickwood field in mays hometown of birmingham, alabama. fans paid their respects, many writing personal messages in the condolence books always had a smile on his face, you know, just always played the game the right way. >> it's just, you know, just thinking back all the all the things that he did for this organization and things like that, for the community. >> willie mays was coming to town and, you know, for a ten year old boy in the 50s and 60s, willie was the bomb. >> and fans say the hey, say, hey, kid might be physically gone from the world, but his spirit and legacy will always be present at the ballpark. surely will. and across the country, fans in birmingham also took time to honor mays. the game, which was called the tribute to

the league, was originally meant to honor the legacy of mays and other black baseball greats who left a mark on the sport after mays passing. it became a way to remember him. >> i've been telling you all that if there's any way on earth my father could come down here, that he would. well, he's found another way. i felt his presence ever since then. >> i think we all have. and hopefully we start, you know, getting some getting some wins for him. >> and they were reminders of history all around, from photos and artifacts of hall of famers inside the ballpark to the chance to be up close to history outside, like seeing an original team bus from 1947. very cool and a good way to honor willie mays. drew, let's get a check of the forecast. >> almost 510 here. gloria will take you to san jose. our live camera. we do have a fair amount of cloud cover this morning. even pressing into the south bay. look at san jose right now reporting cloudy skies. a current temperature of 58 degrees, high humidity and some light winds out there as we

begin our friday. so looking at the forecast across the region, san francisco today, we'll see more sunshine than yesterday. highs in the mid 60s with a little breeze this afternoon oakland will go into the low 70s and then san jose warmer than yesterday will go into the low 80s with ample sunshine by 3 p.m. here's future weather. we'll talk about the marine layer. here's 830. still a fair amount of cloud cover out there at 830. certainly around the bay shoreline. we're fighting a lot of fog along the coast. we're certainly still seeing some drizzle out there, but by midday lunchtime the clouds are mainly along the coast. we have bright sunshine for everywhere else. temperatures already into the 80s inland. and today i do think even the coast will see a little bit more sunshine than we saw yesterday. still will have that cloud cover for those coastal communities like half moon bay, but inland we're starting to get warm temperatures getting into the low to mid 90s in our hottest city. so today we're going above average for the first full day of summer 93. in concord, 94 in antioch, 92 in santa rosa. then you head around

this morning with a sigalert. it is westbound 80 right before

willow. all lanes are shut down. they had a two car accident. it's blocking, as i mentioned, all lanes. they did have to land a helicopter on the freeway. and that helicopter is standing by. eastbound lanes, as you can see, are getting by. okay. but there is a detour in place along san pablo avenue. if you can take highway 780 over to highway 680 back to highway for this accident is just east of highway four, so you can get through on highway four and then continue westbound on 80. >> thank you sue. time now is 514 firefighters in the north bay continuing to make progress on the point fire, which is burning just south of lake sonoma. it's now 70% contained. it's burned 1200 acres. and all evacuation orders and warnings have been lifted. residents returning home, though, might still experience power outages this morning, and containment is also improving. >> on the arrow fire in calaveras county. it's now at

58. crews say the fire is being driven by dry winds. there are evacuation orders still in place , but some people were allowed to return to their homes yesterday. the cause of the fire is still under investigation and the largest fire burning in the state right now is in colusa county, northeast of clear lake. >> so far, the cites fire has burned more than 19,000 acres. it's only 20% contained at this point. it's burning mostly dry grass, but several structures are being threatened. the blaze is also started. several spot fires, four of the state's biggest fires right now are in northern california, and you can see them all on our abc seven news fire map. you can access it any time. it's at abc seven news.com/fire map. new developments now on a story we've been following since last year. california regulators have ordered crews to pay more than more than $112,000 to settle an investigation into a crash that dragged a pedestrian in san

francisco last year. this is the maximum amount allowed by law and more than the 75,000 crews offered to settle the allegations. the crash happened last year when a human driven car hit a woman, and then the crew's self-driving vehicle dragged her 20ft. after the incident, the dmv suspended cruz's permits to operate self-driving cars. we reached out to crews this morning for a response to the settlement. we'll let you know when we hear back. >> alphabet's waymo is getting clearance to expand, according to the chronicle. this week, the california public utilities commission upheld its march decision to allow the company to operate on the peninsula. and in los angeles, it comes days after a bill that would have given bay area cities the power to regulate autonomous vehicles was pulled by south bay state senator dave cortese. now, let's take a live look at sfo. >> your summer vacation is about to get a bit smoother. sfo is reopening a runway that's been under construction since january, and that work has caused a lot of delays, even

forcing some airlines to reduce flights. now that the runway is back open, those delays should go away. bay area commuters might soon be getting around like the jetsons, archer aviation says it's planning to offer electric helicopter flights between select bay area cities by the end of next year. the company says it's reached an agreement to develop a 50 acre waterfront campus in south san francisco, and it's planning to offer flights between that city napa, san jose, oakland and livermore. archer aviation says hour long commutes can be cut down to 15 minutes. ooh hoo! >> yeah. >> imagine no changes. >> yeah, changes. sue's job. i'm just gonna say so much for job security. i know you'll be. now. you'll be looking in the sky. be like, all right, you're taking the commuter. no. >> you might be secure. depending on the price to. >> totally. >> how much? wondering, i don't know. yeah, yeah, it's probably going to be quite expensive. >> yeah, yeah. so we'll see.

time is money. never know. that's true. across the bay. real fast. all right. let's talk about the heat that's coming your way tomorrow. so most areas will have a minor to moderate heat risk. it's not one of our hottest days we've had this year, but it will be above average, especially in those areas shaded in orange will likely go into the 90s. we'll show you those temperatures in one second. we will take a look at highs today. that warming trend gets underway here in the south bay. will be in the 80s and 90s. 88 in san jose, 91 in morgan hill. it's a lovely day if you're headed to santa cruz. we'll hit 76 with a lot of sunshine now along the peninsula . we'll actually see more sunshine for the coast today. in the low 60s there. warmer in redwood city at 84 will go to 78. in mountain view, the city today we were stuck in the clouds yesterday. it was chilly across san francisco. it will feel warmer today with more sunshine in the north bay. we're getting warm to hot 80s 90s if not triple digits near cloverdale, but 88 and novato 91. in sonoma, we're getting warm in the east bay, 76 in oakland, but 83 union city, 84

dangerously close to homes near oklahoma city. >> for some reason, they blew through an assigned altitude and continued and got very close to the ground. >> the boeing 737, which took off from las vegas tuesday night, was descending into oklahoma city's airport just after midnight when it dropped as low as 525ft over the city of yukon, passing just over a high school. a low altitude alarm alerted air traffic control, which contacted the co*ckpit. >> 4069 low altitude alert. you got out there, the air traffic controller in the tower saved the day by telling them, check your altitude. >> the plane landed safely, but local residents flooded social media, saying they thought the plane was going to hit their homes. >> it was night. it was late. perhaps the crew was tired. they were descending over the prairie , so there was no lights. there were no visual reference. it was essentially descending over a black hole. they were given clearance for a visual approach. so they were looking out at the lights of oklahoma city, looking

sunny afternoon on the way. now the coast really cloudy yesterday. i think we'll see a little bit more sunshine today. upper 50s to the lower 60s. tomorrow a heat advisory kicks in. we'll show you that in a few minutes. let's check in with sue hall. sealest drive times are doing good. >> morning drew. good morning everyone. it's friday and we've got much better news. we had an earlier accident with all lanes blocked. they have just announced that the accident is cleared out of the roadway. all lanes have been reopened, so recovery should be happening rather quickly. again, this is westbound 80 before you reach highway four at willow. it was an overturn in the middle lanes all clear and traffic should be recovering. right now. you are stuck back behind the carquinez bridge toll plaza, and it looks like i said, recovery should be happening quite quickly. >> all right, sue, thank you so much. developing news this morning out of oakland where we are still waiting to hear from mayor xing tao. she has not made any statement in the 24 hours since the fbi raided her home.

working together. fbi officers also hit the offices of california waste solutions. we spotted irs investigators there. the company was started by david and victor duong. they were both under investigation by the public ethics commission for funneling money through straw donors to council members. a story first reported by oaklandside in 2020. shengtao allegedly received some of that money. she also traveled with the duong brothers, who funded the trade mission to vietnam last summer. after the fbi left tao's home, mayor tao's partner, andre jones was seen arriving at tao's home with a dog. he came out later with a bag and refused to comment. before leaving. tao was nowhere to be seen. live in studio. lena howland, abc seven news. >> thank you lena new this morning, oakland's naacp is calling on mayor shengtao to resign immediately. they sent a statement saying in part, oaklanders deserve a mayor who's

not distracted, fully committed and able to lead the city. the mayor should resign and give the city an opportunity to heal and move forward. the organization says the mayor will be unable to focus on the needs of oakland residents as she, while she is under investigation. abc seven news insider phil matier was there when the raids started. yesterday morning he joined our news team to talk about the recall effort and what the raids mean for the city of oakland. >> no matter what the outcome of this innocence or whatever, you are innocent in the eyes of the law until proven guilty. but in the court of public opinion, if the fbi shows up at your door, a cloud descends upon you. and between now and when she's facing that recall election, this is not going to be resolved. she is going to be constantly under investigation. >> what does it mean for the city of oakland? because city hall was raided, too. >> there are a number of area where oakland really needs leadership and decisive action. and this is just going to further cloud it. it becomes more than political. it becomes

doctor is eligible for a mental health diversion program, but prosecutors were expecting more accountability. >> we think when we have a violent crime such as this, this wasn't a man thinking about killing his family. he did everything in his power to kill his family. but that, but it does disappoint us. >> in january 2023, dharmesh patel is accused of driving his tesla off devil's slide in pacifica. firefighters were forced to cut his family, including patel's 41 year old wife, seven year old daughter and four year old son out of the wreckage. it was a drop of 300ft in, first responders said. it was a miracle they all survived. during the investigation, prosecutors said patel's actions were intentional. patel's defense said his actions were due to his mental instability. we spoke with legal analyst stephen clark. >> it's important to recognize that this is a man that took an oath to save lives, not to kill people, and i think the defense demonstrated that this was

completely out of character and never would have happened, but for his mental illness. and they said, look at his prior history. patel facing three counts of attempted murder, had support from his wife, who vouched for him. the fact that his family came forward and said, give him a second chance. this may not have happened if his wife had come to court and said he needs to go to jail, district attorney steve wagstaffe said. >> patel will be released from custody in about three weeks. he will undergo treatment for the next two years while he lives at his parents home in belmont. >> the legislature says we want to look at treatment programs instead of incarceration. the question will be, does doctor patel follow through with his treatment program? >> the judge stated that after review of all the evidence, patel's mental illness was major depressive disorder. there will be a hearing on july first to work out the details in the south bay, lauren martinez, abc seven news new york's governor has signed the bill to restrict

social media use by minors under the law, people under 18 will only be allowed to see posts from accounts they follow, rather than content suggested by an algorithm. >> and platforms cannot send minors notifications between midnight and 6 a.m, the restrictions can be turned off with parental consent. >> we know that we've already lost too many kids or kids that are spiraling for a long time now. >> earlier this week, the us surgeon general called for social media platforms to display health warnings similar to tobacco products. research shows that kids who spend an average of three hours or more on social media double their risk of anxiety and also depression, and data shows they spend an average of five hours on it every day. >> california voters will not have the opportunity to check state and local tax hikes at the polls. the california supreme court has removed a measure from the november ballot that would have made it harder to raise taxes in a rare step, the court ruled the change would upend the

way government works. more than a million people signed a petition supporting a ballot measure requiring voters to approve any tax increase passed by the state legislature. it would have also required two thirds of voters to approve local tax increases, instead of a simple majority. we are now six days away from the first presidential debate between president joe biden and former president donald trump. it's set to make history as the first presidential debate ever between an incumbent and a former president. and you can watch it live right here on abc seven. a coin flip determines some of the debate logistics. the coin landed on tails, which was the biden campaign's pick. so his campaign got to choose between the podium position or the order of closing statements. biden's campaign chose the right podium position. trump's campaign then chose to deliver the last closing statement. the coverage, live coverage of the debate begins at 5 p.m. next thursday. the debate itself gets going at 6 p.m. abc news will help break it down afterward. then stay

our warmest areas, 60s and 70s around the bay shoreline and then heading into the afternoon, we will keep that marine layer close to the coast. but i do think we see a bit more sunshine today, even along the coast, than we saw yesterday. it's warmer inland. we'll go into the 90s in our warmest areas, 70s and 80s around the bay shoreline. so today a warming trend gets underway. here. we'll find that accelerates tomorrow as a heat advisory kicks in. we'll go to 76 in oakland with afternoon sunshine, 88 in san jose. so we're getting pretty warm, if not verging on hot in the south bay. 92 in santa rosa. across the city, we get more sunshine than yesterday and it will feel warmer, a high of about 68 degrees. so looking at the next three days, we have some summer heat today. then tomorrow the heat advisory kicks in. you see those temperatures well above average. we'll take a closer look at that heat advisory c

take a look at the evening planner. it will be a nice friday night if you have anything outside temperatures stay relatively comfortable. we're past kind of that peak of the heat during the day, so we'll see those temperatures very comfortable and that sunshine giving way to fog closer to about 9 p.m. so overnight tonight we'll track a more limited marine layer as we see that warming trend build in here. overnight lows in the 40s and in the 50s. so as we head into saturday, it is going to be a hot start to the weekend. those temperatures well into the 90s in our hottest spots inland, 70s and 80s around the bay shoreline. but it's short lived. by sunday we see cooler air start to rush in here pretty fast. so the accuweather seven day forecast will show you summer heat today with that heat advisory for one day tomorrow. then that cooling quickly begins here on sunday, and then we keep it very comfortable for much of next week guys. >> all right drew thank you so much. well new at six global workforce layoffs. the bay area tech company getting rid of hundreds of employees. >> hockey fans keep it locked
