Timothy (Tim) Lee Smith Obituary - 2024 (2024)

Timothy (Tim) Lee Smith – August 3, 1971, to March 30, 2024

A Christian husband, father, son, brother, uncle, cousin, friend received his final reward for a life dedicated to family and faith. Timothy Lee Smith passed away on March 30, 2024. Tim thrived in life despite struggling with elusive health issues throughout most of his adulthood. He loved his family without reservation and was loyal to them beyond human reason.

Tim was born in Elgin, Illinois as Timothy Lee Conway. He was blessed to be adopted by amazing, Godly parents in 1974. He grew up in phases from Friendly, West Virginia to Fernandina Beach, FL to New Martinsville, WV where he graduated from Magnolia High School. Tim was an accomplished cross-country runner in West Virginia participating in multiple state championship teams in high school and continuing his career into college at David Lipscomb University (Nashville, TN) and Glenville University (Glennville, WV) where he qualified individually for the 1991 Nationals Competition.

Tim married the love of his life, Rachel, in June of 1992. They were blessed to live, love, and grow together for 31 years. Tim supported their growing family for decades with various jobs and small business ventures in the service industry while remaining active in his community as baseball coach and minister to those less fortunate. He led his family with honesty and accountability to our Lord with passion and respect. As Tim’s health deteriorated in his later years, he struggled while balancing the internal pressures of chronic pain with embracing the joy of life with his family and friends.

Tim was proceeded in death by a nephew and a niece (Shane Linville and Amber Pitts). He is survived by his wife: Rachel Dean (Carson) Smith of Waycross GA, three children: William (Bekah) of Jacksonville FL, Rebecca Smith Phillips (Connor) of Huntsville AL, and Samuel (Lexie) of Florence AL, and four grandchildren: Ryder (10), Dallas (8), Arya (6), Axel (4). He is also survived by his parents Larry and Lenore Smith, two brothers, Steve and Brent Smith of Fernandina Beach Florida, sister Cammie Foreshea (Michael) of Gainesville FL, as well as 17 niece/nephews and 13 great-niece/nephews across 7 states.

Tim’s life will be honored at Green Pines Funeral Home in Yulee, FL on Friday April 5, 2024. Visitation will be at 1:00 pm and Lee Jamieson will lead the service at 2:00. Tim will be laid to rest at Green Pines Cemetery. Pallbearers are William Smith, Connor Phillips, Samuel Smith, Michael Crandall, Wayne Pitts, and Andrew Garland. Honorary pallbearers are Steve Smith, Brent Smith, and David Watkins. Tim’s family would like to thank Hospice Satilla of Waycross, GA for their gentle and caring service since January 2024, and would encourage donations in his honor to them in lieu of flowers if desired.

Tim’s reflection of his life recalled his most peaceful times as: playing in the yard on Friendly Hill, WV with Rusty, the family Collie: fishing in the St. John’s River behind the family house in Fernandina Beach FL: running ridges with his friends in West Virginia: and spending time at home with his wife and children in Woodstock, AL. What some in this world might consider ‘especially boring’ was what Tim considered the accomplishments of a lifetime. His legacy will continue for years and generations to come.
