I get what you're saying, but all I can see is that he won while they lost.

Roy went above and beyond the purpose of his match, which was to learn how to terastallize. It was as if the writers wanted to indicate who we should be focusing on when it comes to battles

I don't think that is at all what they're trying to do. Roy already lost to him once and had a massive type advantage against the false tree when it changes, while Liko and Dot where at a huge disadvantage.

Don't remind me: Post BW series were especially bad with that, especially XY where they REALLY tried hammering home how much of a stock shounen love interest Serena was, down to needing Ash to save the day for her. They even nerfed Korrina from the games.

But I will leave it at that, but it's that trend that makes me cautious.

Its proably moreso due to how Horizons is written with everyone using there main Pokemon more for battles, then their other pokemon.

Oh then in that case Dot’s loss was potentially preventable (not that type advantage was seen as this end all be all anyways) but she might’ve had a better shot. Liko is the only one out the three who has Pokémon weak to Gym leader she was battling.

Even if Floragato doesn't learn a move its still not filler, covers Floragato and Likos relationship and what not.

In universe there was no rule, but it makes sense from a writing standpoint why they all three used their starters. First time Tera and all that.

Dot also had no type advantage. Electric moves are super effective against water, not the other way around.

They were referring to the teams as a whole. I think what they meant was "Liko is the only one out of the three whos entire team was weak to the Gym Leader they were battling"

As for all team members (Dot's second Pokémon is Tinkatink), Steel and Fairy also have no advantage over the Electric type.

Looked at their twitter feed, along with others like them. Noticed that a lot of them feel like the hardcore Ash fans who hate that he was replaced.
